This one-day course is perfect for leatherworkers of all levels who want to extend the lifespan of their tools and master essential maintenance techniques.

  • Splitter Blade Adjustment: Sharpening the blade of a hand splitter and properly adjusting its position.
  • Awl Preparation: Assembling and sharpening stitching awls for precise use.
  • Screw Crease Setup: Preparing and setting up a new screw crease for clean, crisp leather lines.
  • Edge Tool Maintenance: Techniques for sharpening edge tools to keep them smooth and effective.
  • Punch Restoration: Sharpening and restoring punches, including replacing the tube in a levered revolving punch.

These demonstrations will also introduce you to:

  • The Double-Sided Strop: A leatherworker’s secret weapon for maintaining sharp edges.
  • Safe Use of a Bench Grinder: Practical tips for proper and safe operation.

Afternoon Session: Hands-On Practice

Then it’s your turn to put the morning’s lessons into practice. Under the supervision of skilled tutors, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Sharpen and restore your own tools.
  • Practice techniques for filing and repairing stitch markers.
  • Learn how to mend a hammer with a damaged head (if there is interest).
