Sebastian Tarek

Sebastian Tarek is a bespoke shoemaker and dedicated educator, committed to helping future generations develop real, practical shoemaking skills.

We are thrilled to welcome his skills to Walsall Leather Skills Centre, where he will focus on giving students a genuine understanding of the craft – working by hand, learning core construction methods and building confidence through doing.

His approach is grounded, honest and highly practical, designed to support those starting out, as well as those looking to deepen their technical ability.

Sebastian understands how difficult it can be to find the right pathway into shoemaking, particularly for those wishing to focus on traditional hand skills. His teaching is shaped by that experience, offering clear progression and the opportunity to explore different areas of footwear construction over time.

With an emphasis on quality materials, attention to detail and repetition of technique, students will gain a solid foundation and a clearer direction for their progression within the shoemaking craft.

Alongside his teaching, Sebastian runs a bespoke shoemaking practice in East London, where he creates each pair entirely by hand, from first measurement to final stitch. Working independently across every stage allows him to maintain complete control over fit, form and finish, resulting in footwear designed for longevity and individuality. His work draws on a strong grounding in West End traditions, combined with a more contemporary, personal aesthetic.

Shoemaking is deeply rooted in Sebastian’s background, with a family lineage extending back generations. He has developed his skills through years of experience within established bespoke shoemaking environments and continues to contribute to the wider industry through teaching and collaboration. His commitment to both making and mentoring reflects a belief in preserving the craft while ensuring it remains relevant for future makers.
