Walsall Leather Skills Centre’s 2024: A Year of Achievements and Festive Cheer

30 December 2024

WLSC’s 2024 Year in Review and Festive Wishes 🎄✨

As 2024 comes to an end, we reflect on what has been a remarkable year for Walsall Leather Skills Centre. From celebrating milestones within our team to hosting incredible events and courses, this year has been one of growth, creativity, and connection. Let’s take a moment to share our highlights, look ahead to 2025, and thank everyone who has supported us on this journey.

2024 Highlights: Celebrating Achievements

International Connections & Building Confidence and Skills

We were delighted to welcome students from across Europe, particularly for specialised courses like Side Saddle Construction. It’s a privilege to see our Centre become a hub for leatherworking enthusiasts from around the world, united by their passion for the craft.

We have seen students complete the> Foundation Course,> developing the skills and confidence to take the next step in their leatherworking journey. For many, this meant progressing to the Intermediate Bridle Course, where they are honing their techniques and taking on more complex projects.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see our students not only grow in their craft but also begin to connect with the wider industry in Walsall and beyond. Whether building professional networks or preparing to launch their own ventures, the progress made by our students this year has been inspiring.

Rob Jenkins Becomes a Freeman of London

We were thrilled to see tutor Rob Jenkins honoured as a Freeman of London with the Saddlers’ Company this year. Rob’s expertise and dedication to leatherworking continue to inspire students and colleagues alike, and this recognition is well-deserved.

Jo Heard and Abbey England Workshop

In 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting Jo Heard and Abbey England for a fantastic workshop event at the Centre. Jo’s creativity, skill, and passion for leathercraft made this an unforgettable experience for everyone who attended.

BETA International 2024

We proudly represented WLSC at BETA International, connecting with industry professionals and showcasing the incredible work of our students and tutors. It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen relationships within the leatherworking and equestrian communities.

Looking Ahead to 2025

National Saddlery Competition

We’re excited to support our students and tutors as their incredible work is entered in the National Saddlery Competition on 4th February 2025. A highlight of the year and a true celebration of craftsmanship.

National Equine Show 2025

Join us at the National Equine Show in March, where we’ll showcase the Centre’s work and meet with equestrian enthusiasts. We’re looking forward to connecting with old friends and making new ones.

Sore Saddlers Charity Cycle Ride

In July 2025, WLSC will again host the launch of the Sore Saddlers Charity Cycle Ride , raising funds for Shelter from the Storm. An event that celebrates the Saddlers’ Company’s connection with equestrian and saddlery sectors while supporting a great cause.
